ClimaCell works with the World Bank to Leverage State-of-the-Art Weather Insights Technology
Boston, April 16, 2020 – Today ClimaCell, the weather technology company, is excited to announce a partnership with the World Bank and the Development Data Partnership, helping bring the world’s leading weather technology engine and software to developing countries.
Through the program which connects international organizations and companies, ClimaCell will make its data available across developmental sectors, joining existing partners including Facebook, Google, Uber and more who seek to expand their product reach to serve vulnerable communities. With the initial focus in Africa, ClimaCell will support efforts by the World Bank and partners to explore how big weather data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning can be harnessed to directly support COVID19 relief efforts. ClimaCell participated in a data clinic last week organized by the World Bank to share the latest thinking on the link between air quality and COVID-19 outcomes, in addition to economic impact.
ClimaCell and the World Bank have also begun exploring use of advanced weather tools to contribute towards productive and resilient agriculture. For example, teams are evaluating how machine learning, environmental data and insights can be used to address the locust crisis currently devastating East Africa, which has already impacted more than 20 million people and calls for hundreds of millions in aid.
